Air Monitoring – WHSQ Campaign to begin.

Air monitoring is a critical component of the upcoming Silica Code of Practice in the construction and manufacturing industries.

It allows employers and contractors to identify, assess, and provide recommendations to control hazards associated with silica dust exposure.

It is also enables PCBU’s to demonstrate compliance with regulations, improve worker health and safety, and continuously improve their risk management practices.

By prioritizing air monitoring, businesses can gain effective insights to protect the health of their workers, ensure compliance with the code, and promote a healthy work environment.

With the new Silica Code of Practice coming into effect on May 1st, 2023, it is imperative for employers and contractors to prioritize air monitoring as a crucial tool in safeguarding workers’ health and mitigating the risks associated with silica dust exposure.

As part of ensuring compliance for the workforce, WHSQ inspectors will visit hundreds of businesses to monitor activities involving silica and ensure compliance against the Code.

Inspectors will be asking you to provide evidence of any air and health monitoring records and will look at any respirable protective equipment in use, your clean up and disposal methods for silica waste, the impact of the RCS generating activity on workers, and how workers operating earth moving equipment are protected from exposure.

With time running out before 1 May, it is imperative for businesses who have activities outside of the Controls Table to reach out to us and book in Air Monitoring for your tasks.
